The Amsterdam based artist Volten was inspired by the three silver Saint Andrew’s Crosses in the coat of arms of Amsterdam when he created this sculpture. The sculpture was made in commisssion of the city of Amsterdam and handed out as ‘The Amsterdam promotion award’ to ; ‘KLM’ The Royal Dutch Airlines, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and the National Ballet in 1977 and 1978.
