Marjan Schröder
This is one of two identical Zigzag chairs from the home of Marjan Schröder, daughter of Truus Schröder, the owner and inhabitant of the famous Rietveld-Schröder house. From the late 1940s, Marjan lived together with her sister Han and Han’s partner, Cora Henriques de Castro, in a house on ‘De Oude Waal’ in Amsterdam.

Centraal Museum Utrecht
According to Cora’s niece, Milka Henriques de Castro, who frequently visited her aunt as a child, the interior of the house was partly designed and furnished by Rietveld. As a token of their friendship, Marjan gave Milka two Zigzag chairs, which she had known since childhood and which originated from this house. Milka sold one of the chairs to the Centraal Museum in Utrecht, The Netherlands; the other one is the chair on offer here.

Report
A report is available, drawn up by, Rietveld specialized restorer, Jurjen Creman on behalf of the Centraal Museum Utrecht, on the two Zigzag chairs by Marjan Schröder/Milka Henriques de Castro.
