Giso Pendant no.23
Gispen’s N.V. , Rotterdam/Culemborg 1931-1936
An image of this type of lamp is used on a poster and in advertisments from around 1928 which became international examples of modernist design and ‘New- Typography’.
Le Corbusier used this pendant in several apartments he build in the late twenties.
It is very likely he used this design as well at the pavilions he designed for the ‘Weißenhofsiedlung’, an international showcase of modern architecture organized by the Deutscher Werkbund, which took place in Stuttgart Germany from July 23, 1927
A pendant of museum quality, we sold one of the two identical lamps we had in our collection to the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, where the lamp is now on view. The copy that is still available was shown at the exhibition ‘Electrifying Design: A Century of Lighting‘ at the MFAH (Museum of Fine Arts Houston, Texas USA).
